2012 MCoR Regional Convention Operating Sessions

Gateway to Model Railroading Fun
NMRA MCoR 2012 Convention
May 30 through June 3, 2012

Return to 2012 MCoR Convention Page

Welcome to the 2012 Mid Continent Region Convention in St. Louis, MO. The Gateway Division NMRA is proud to host the 2012 convention, and is pleased to offer several nights of operating sessions on local layouts.

The desire to attend an operating session must be disclosed during registration. Those that have registered, and missed signing up for a session, may contact Gary Gross at grossrr@charter.net to register as an operator/participant.

There will be operating sessions on three nights during the convention: Wednesday May 30, Thursday May 31, Friday June 1.

Each participant will be provided their layout assignment in their MCOR convention information packet upon arriving at the convention hotel. Information and an overview regarding the assigned layout will be available at the OP-SIG table within the SIG room, including maps to the layouts. Please note, operating assignments will not be disclosed prior to arrival at the convention.

Please assume that you must provide your own transportation to the host layout. Every effort will be made to help ensure those without the means is afforded transportation to his/her assigned layout with other operators. It is requested that each participant assemble in the SIG room at approximately 5:30 pm on the afternoon of their assigned operating session, and if necessary, and space available, offer transportation to those that may not have any at their disposal. For those that offer rides to participants who do not have transportation, we politely ask that you return the passenger to the convention hotel after the session, unless some other arrangements are made with the passenger.

Depending on the distance to layouts, departures from the hotel should be made by no later than 6 pm, for a 6:30 pm arrival at the host layout. This will give the host the opportunity to provide an orientation to the participants. All operating sessions will begin at 7:00 pm, and should last about 3 hours, with some dependency on host requirements to complete a session.

Most of the hosts offer snacks and drinks to their crew, but please recognize that the gathering and departure times at the hotel occur during the late afternoon/early evening dinner time, so please plan your meals accordingly.

There is no need to bring anything to the layouts other than yourself. All operating needs such as radios, pen/pencils, paperwork, etc will be provided by the layout host unless otherwise indicated in the packet information.

At this time, only operators are allowed to attend the sessions. Observers tend to disrupt sessions, particularly where space is limited, so please do not bring spouses or friends who have not been assigned an operating slot.

Every effort will be made to ensure that participants have layout assignments on their preferred days, as it is assumed that each participant provided a schedule that maximizes participation in other convention activities. However, due to crew requirements of the host layouts, some departure from preferred nights may be necessary, and may impact your availability. If for some reason, you cannot attend the operating session you are assigned, please let the MCOR organizers in the SIG room at the convention hotel know as soon as possible once you determine that you are unavailable for your assigned slot. It is OK to trade sessions with another participant, but otherwise please attend the sessions you are assigned, since each railroad requires a certain number of operators, and too little or too many operators at a given layout may negatively impact the session.

Thanks for your interest in attending the MCOR convention and operating sessions.
