Gateway NMRA Rail Op Weekend 2011
Frequently Asked Questions

Back to Rail Op Weekend Main Page

Must I be a member of the NMRA?

Yes, you must be an NMRA member to participate. If you are not currently an NMRA member, you can join so you can participate in the Rail Op event. Contact Phil Bonzon at pgbonzon@aol.com or http://www.gatewaynmra.org/membership.htm

Are the layouts handicapped accessible?

The layouts are not handicapped accessible, since they are located in basements and are accessed by stairs.

I am new to operations. Can I participate?

Yes, the sessions are open to all experience levels (novices, occasional operators, and "old hands"). We hope to introduce more members to model railroad operations and encourage beginners to participate. Just check the appropriate space on your registration, so that the layout owner can plan how much time he needs giving operation instructions. Questions are encouraged!

How do I register?

You register online at the Gateway website www.gatewaynmra.org/railop/sign-up.htm

Can I register for more than one session or layout?

You may register for one, two, or all three sessions, but you cannot operate on any one layout more than once.

When does registration close?

Registration closes on April 20, 2011. Sessions and layouts will be assigned in the order received. All registrants will be assigned one session before anyone is assigned second or third sessions.

When and how will I be notified of my session assignments?

On or about April 30, 2011, you will be sent an email with your layout assignments, their locations, and any other information necessary. Assignments will also be posted online shortly after that date.

Are throttles or radios necessary?

You need to check the information for each layout for the specifics for throttles and radios.

What about hotels and transportation?

Since this event is planned mainly for NMRA Gateway Division (great St. Louis area) members, hotels and transportation, if needed, are entirely up to the participants.

Who do I contact if I have questions?

Email Phil Bonzon at pgbonzon@aol.com. Include "Gateway Rail Op" in the subject line.
